Park Ridge Shines Brightly – Inclusion Revolution
We are happy to sponsor a star in the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce’s This beautiful sculpture was painted by the very talented residents at Misericordia, Heart of Mercy, all who have differing abilities.
There is thoughtful meaning through the design – Inclusion and the support of differing abilities is a big part of our mission. Everyone wins when everyone is included! The garden theme throughout is a tribute to the Amina Grace Garden which is part of the Misericordia campus and provides horticulture therapy to residents. The butterfly symbolizes the many qualities that we admire in people with Down syndrome and has become an accepted symbol of Down syndrome awareness. Butterflies are not only symbols of hope, but change. Nabil drew the heart surrounding two people that is part of our logo which symbolizes him and Amina Grace. Emma wrote the letters that are part of our logo. The residents of Misericordia re-created both elements on the sides of the star. Gerry’s Cafe, Misericordia, National Association for Down Syndrome (NADS) and GiGi’s Playhouse are our program partners.
ย You can find our star at Lutzow Park, right next to Dolcetti Patisserie & Cafe. The stars are starting to be displayed all around Park Ridge, with more being added every day. This will be a great activity to explore Park Ridge and look for the 30 or so stars throughout the community.
ย Pictured with the star are Amina Grace’s mom Maura, sister Emma and brother Nabil.
